Do you produce a lot of mail?
IT: Yes we do actually. From my point of view, for fundraising, it is a very important communication channel for potential and current donors. We are currently sending out a direct mail piece to 4,500 previous supporters and we are going to ask them to support us again this year. As anyone who has done direct mail knows it is very work heavy.
How do you manage your mailing campaigns?
IT: Usually we have to ask volunteers – quite a large team of volunteers- to help us pack a mailing of this size. And they could really be doing something a lot more worthwhile for the charity such as helping us to raise money so we can grant wishes. But this time round we are very lucky, thanks to a folder inserter from Neopost.
Which folder inserter are you using?
IT: We are using a DS-63 folder inserter. We are going to use it to pack up two A4 pages and a business reply envelope into a C5 envelope. It’s really easy to use. Basically you insert your documents into the feeder , press the green button and you’re good to go. The great thing about it is that it actually provides you with a sample beforehand. So you know that everything is perfect and then off you go.
Is this is machine faster than folding and inserting by hand?
IT: There’s no comparison. It’s so much faster. On average it takes about two hours to do a 4,500 letter mailing. In the past when we used volunteers, it would take up to two full days with a team of five volunteers packing. So there really is no comparison. It’s brilliant.
What do you like about this folding inserting machine?
IT: First and foremost, it saves us a lot of money. Anyone who has done direct mail before knows that the fulfillment side of things is one of high expenses. You are at the mercy of external suppliers. But with a machine like this you’re in control. I also like the fact that it’s compact, it’s quiet, it’s really easy to use. You can load it up and just get on with your job.
